MIAM and Family Mediation in Coventry

MIAM Appointments and Family Mediation in Coventry

If you're looking for a MIAM or family mediation in Coventry, you may be facing difficult decisions about your future. Whether you're separating, making arrangements for your children, resolving financial matters or navigating more complex family issues, mediation offers a constructive way to move forward in a calm, confidential and supportive environment.

I'm Angelique, a qualified family mediator based in Warwickshire. I work with individuals and couples throughout Coventry and the surrounding areas, helping families have productive conversations and reach practical agreements without unnecessary conflict.

Family relationships can be complicated, particularly during times of change. My role isn't to judge, take sides or tell you what to do. Instead, I provide an impartial space where everyone has the opportunity to be heard, helping you explore options and work towards agreements that meet your family's individual needs.

Whether you've been advised to attend a MIAM before making an application to the Family Court or you're simply looking for an alternative to lengthy legal proceedings, I'll explain the mediation process clearly and support you every step of the way.

How I can help

I provide mediation for a wide range of family matters, including:

  • MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings)
  • Divorce and separation
  • Child arrangements, including where children will live and the time they spend with each parent
  • Financial agreements following separation
  • Kinship care and wider family arrangements, including discussions involving grandparents and extended family members
  • Complex family issues, including situations where addiction or other challenges are affecting family relationships

Every family has different priorities and concerns. Mediation allows you to explore solutions that reflect your own circumstances, giving you greater control over the decisions that affect your future.

Why choose mediation?

Separation and family disputes can be emotionally draining, particularly when communication has broken down. Mediation provides a structured and respectful environment where important conversations can take place with the support of an independent family mediator.

Many people choose mediation because it can:

  • Improve communication during difficult times
  • Reduce conflict and misunderstandings
  • Keep discussions focused on practical solutions
  • Help parents make decisions centred on their children's wellbeing
  • Save the emotional and financial cost of lengthy court proceedings
  • Give you greater control over the decisions affecting your family's future
  • Encourage more positive communication for future co-parenting

While mediation isn't suitable in every situation, many families find it offers a more positive and less adversarial way of resolving issues than court proceedings.

Why choose Heart of England Family Mediation?

Choosing the right mediator is an important decision.

I understand that contacting a mediator can feel like a significant step, particularly when emotions are high or communication has become difficult. My aim is to provide a welcoming, professional and supportive environment where everyone feels listened to and respected.

As an independent family mediator, I remain impartial throughout the process. I'll explain each stage clearly, answer your questions honestly and help you work towards practical agreements at a pace that's right for your family. Whether you're attending a MIAM, discussing child arrangements, resolving financial matters or dealing with more complex family issues, my focus is always on helping you move forward with greater confidence and clarity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a MIAM?

A MIAM is a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting. It is a first meeting with a mediator to discuss whether mediation is right for your family's situation. Since April 2014, it has been a legal requirement for anyone wishing to make an application to the Family Court to attend a MIAM first, unless a valid exemption applies.

What if I don't want to be in the same room as the other person?

Mediation doesn't always have to involve being in the same room. I also offer 'shuttle mediation', where you and the other person stay in separate rooms (whether face-to-face or online) and I move between you to share information and help you explore options. This can be particularly helpful if there are high levels of conflict or you feel uncomfortable meeting together.

Can mediation take place online?

Yes, I offer secure online family mediation via Zoom for clients in Coventry, across Warwickshire and throughout England and Wales. Many families choose online mediation for its flexibility and convenience, as it allows you to attend from a private and comfortable space in your own home.

How long does mediation take?

The number of sessions required depends on the complexity of the issues you need to resolve. While some families reach agreement in one or two sessions, others may need more time to discuss complex child arrangements or financial matters. I will discuss the likely timeframe with you during your initial meeting.

What if the other person doesn't want to attend mediation?

Mediation is a voluntary process. If the other person decides they don't want to attend, you have still fulfilled the requirement to attend a MIAM yourself. I can then provide you with the necessary court certificate if you later decide to make an application to the Family Court, or we can discuss other options for moving forward.

How do I arrange an appointment?

You can arrange an initial MIAM appointment by getting in touch via the contact form on this website, emailing info@heartofenglandfm.co.uk or calling 07862289788. I'll be pleased to answer any initial questions you have and find a time that's convenient for you to meet.
