MIAM and Family Mediation in Warwick

MIAM Appointments and Family Mediation in Warwick

If you're looking for a MIAM or family mediation in Warwick, you may be facing one of the most challenging periods in your life. Whether you're separating, making arrangements for your children or trying to reach agreement about finances, mediation offers a constructive way to move forward without immediately turning to court.

I'm Angelique, a qualified family mediator based in Warwickshire. I work with individuals and couples throughout Warwick and the surrounding area, providing a calm, confidential and impartial environment where important conversations can take place safely and respectfully.

My role isn't to take sides or tell you what decisions to make. Instead, I help you explore your options, improve communication where possible and work towards practical agreements that are right for your family.

Whether you're attending a MIAM because you're considering a court application or you're choosing mediation voluntarily, I'll explain the process clearly and support you at every stage.

How I can help

I provide mediation for a wide range of family issues, including:

MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings)

Divorce and separation

Child arrangements, including where children live and the time they spend with each parent

Financial agreements following separation

Kinship care and wider family arrangements

Complex family issues, including situations where addiction is affecting family relationships

Every family is different. Mediation allows you to explore solutions that reflect your own circumstances rather than having decisions imposed by someone else.

Why choose mediation?

Family mediation provides a safe and structured space where both people have the opportunity to be heard.

Many families find mediation helps them:

  • Reduce conflictImprove communicationKeep discussions focused on practical solutionsMake arrangements that are centred on the needs of their childrenSave the emotional and financial cost of lengthy court proceedingsMaintain greater control over decisions affecting their family's future

Although mediation isn't suitable in every situation, many people find it offers a more constructive way of resolving issues following separation.

Supporting families in Warwick and surrounding areas

I regularly work with clients from Warwick, Barford, Hatton, Hampton Magna, Budbrooke and the surrounding areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a MIAM?

A MIAM is a short meeting which provides you with information about mediation and other ways of resolving your family issues without going to court. It's usually the first step in the mediation process.

Do I have to attend mediation before going to court?

In most cases, the court requires you to have attended a MIAM before you can make an application for an order regarding children or finances. This is to ensure you've considered mediation as a way to resolve things first.

Is family mediation confidential?

Yes, mediation is a confidential process. What you discuss in mediation cannot be shared with your solicitor or the court, with very few exceptions related to safeguarding and criminal activity.

How long does mediation take?

Every family's circumstances are different. Some issues can be resolved in one or two meetings, while more complex situations may require additional sessions.

What if I don't want to be in the same room as the other person?

You don't have to be. Where appropriate, I can offer shuttle mediation, where you and the other person remain in separate rooms and I move between you, facilitating the discussion. This can help people feel more comfortable while still allowing mediation to take place. Shuttle mediation can also be provided online via Zoom, with each person joining from a separate location or virtual room. This allows mediation to take place without you needing to see or communicate directly with the other person if that feels more appropriate. We'll discuss your individual circumstances during your MIAM or initial conversation to decide whether shuttle mediation is suitable for your situation.
