MIAM and Family Mediation in Stratford

MIAM Appointments and Family Mediation in Stratford

If you're looking for a MIAM or family mediation in Stratford-upon-Avon, you may be wondering how to move forward during what can be one of the most challenging times in your life. Whether you're separating, resolving financial matters or making arrangements for your children, mediation offers a supportive and constructive way to find practical solutions.

I'm Angelique, a qualified family mediator based in Warwickshire. I work with individuals and couples throughout Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding areas, providing a calm, confidential and impartial environment where difficult conversations can take place safely and respectfully.

Rather than taking sides or making decisions for you, my role is to help you communicate more effectively, explore your options and work towards agreements that meet the needs of your family.

Whether you've been asked to attend a MIAM before making an application to the Family Court or you're choosing mediation voluntarily, I'll explain the process clearly and support you from the very first conversation.

How I can help

I provide mediation for a wide range of family issues, including:

  • MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings)
  • Divorce and separation
  • Child arrangements, including where children will live and the time they spend with each parent
  • Financial agreements following separation
  • Kinship care and wider family arrangements, including discussions involving grandparents and extended family members
  • Complex family issues, including situations where addiction or other challenges are affecting family relationships

Why choose mediation?

Family separation often brings uncertainty, heightened emotions and difficult decisions. Mediation provides a safe and structured environment where both people have the opportunity to be heard, helping you focus on finding practical solutions rather than becoming caught up in conflict.

Many families choose mediation because it can:

  • Improve communication
  • Reduce conflict and misunderstandings
  • Keep discussions focused on practical outcomes
  • Support child-focused decision-making
  • Avoid the emotional and financial cost of lengthy court proceedings
  • Enable you to remain in control of decisions affecting your family's future

While mediation isn't suitable in every situation, many people find it offers a more constructive and less stressful way of resolving family issues.

Why choose Heart of England Family Mediation?

Choosing the right mediator is an important step. I understand that asking for support isn't always easy. My aim is to provide a welcoming, professional environment where you feel listened to, respected and supported throughout the process.

Clients often tell me they appreciate my calm approach, my ability to remain impartial and the opportunity to discuss difficult issues without judgement. Whether your circumstances are straightforward or more complex, I'll help you understand your options and work towards agreements at a pace that feels right for you.

If you're based further afield, I also provide secure online family mediation via Zoom for clients throughout England and Wales.

Online mediation can be particularly helpful if:

  • you and the other person live in different areas
  • travelling isn't practical
  • work or childcare commitments make attending in person difficult
  • you feel more comfortable meeting online
  • you live outside Warwickshire but would like to work with me

Many clients are pleasantly surprised by how natural and effective online mediation feels.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a MIAM?

A MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting) is a first meeting with a qualified family mediator. It provides an opportunity to explain your situation, learn more about the mediation process and discuss whether it is suitable for your circumstances. In most cases, attending a MIAM is a legal requirement before making an application to the Family Court.

What if I don't want to be in the same room as the other person?

You don't have to be in the same room. I offer 'shuttle mediation', where you and the other person stay in separate online spaces or rooms, and I move between you to share information and explore options. This can be a helpful way to resolve issues if you feel uncomfortable meeting face-to-face.

Can mediation take place online?

Yes, many clients now choose to attend mediation online via secure Zoom meetings. It offers the same professional, confidential service as face-to-face appointments but gives you the flexibility to join from home or another private location.

How long does mediation take?

The number of sessions depends on the complexity of the issues being discussed. While some families reach agreement in two or three sessions, others may need more. We will discuss the likely timing during your MIAM and review it as we move through the process.

What if the other person doesn't want to attend mediation?

Mediation is a voluntary process. If the other person chooses not to attend, I will explain your options for next steps, which may include providing the necessary documentation for a court application if mediation is not able to move forward.

How do I arrange an appointment?

You can get in touch by phone or email to arrange a confidential initial conversation. We can then book your MIAM appointment at a time that works for you.
